Communications

At Grapevine Nursery, we use the secure childcare platform, Famly, to communicate with our children’s families. We provide a wealth of information as standard, to keep families in the loop:

• Toileting or nappy changes

• Meals

• Temperature checks

• Sun cream

• Medication.

The secure app provides instant messaging, collection time updates, and for subscribers, activity posts and monthly observations.

 

Outdoor Play

The ground floor play ground is the outdoor space used by our pre-school children. The rubberised flooring provides a soft and bouncy surface for children to engage in safer physical development. The main feature of the playground is the castle, a two-storey structure with a cargo net and slide for fun and fitness. Building blocks and wooden stepping stones are used to build obstacle courses and explore our imaginations. We have a selection of pedal bikes, scooters, trikes and vehicles for children to play on. Other features of the play ground include a basketball ring, outdoor blackboard, interactive clock, wobbly mirror, glockenspiel, mobile sand pit, plant growing areas, and an array of equipment for physical development and games.

Upstairs, there is an enclosed mezzanine space with a canopy roof for babies and toddlers to engage in safe and secure physical development. The children enjoy climbing and going down the slide, playing games with hoops and music, and water play in the warmer summer months. All babies and toddlers are protected from the sun and rain by a canopy covering the entire outdoor space.

The entrance to the nursery is located to the rear of the building on Guernsey Road.

 

Food Preparation

We have a dedicated kitchen for serving hot lunches and preparing evening meals for the children that stay for dinner. Staff have completed Food Hygiene training and we maintain a safe and effective kitchen to meet the nutritional and safety needs of our children. All meals are added to each child’s account on our secure childcare app so parents and carers know what and how much their child has eaten during their day at nursery.

 

Personal Care

Every class room has child height hand washing facilities, potties, toilets and nappy changing facilities. Potty and toilet training is an important part of the early years and we work hard to ensure every child has a positive experience wherever they are in their journey to toileting independence. All nappy changes and potty/toilet trips are added to each child’s account on our secure childcare app so parents and carers know how many times their child has a water or bowel movement during the nursery day.

Safeguarding

• All Grapevine Nursery staff regularly complete Safeguarding Training

• All Grapevine Nursery staff hold Enhanced DBS Checks

• Every class room features large interior windows to ensure complete visibility across each space

• No member of staff is left alone with children; we work in pairs or more at all times

• All images taken for Famly app subscribers are only taken using nursery tablets and are automatically visible across all devices. All images are permanently deleted from all devices once posted to the Famly app

• No members of staff are authorised to carry personal devices including mobile phones and smart watches; these remain locked within the staff room at all times.

Sleep Times

Every class room has sleeping facilities for children to have that all important nap time. We have a selection of baby cots, cribs, and sleep mats to accommodate different ages. All children are supervised and regularly monitored during sleep times. All staff undertake regular Safer Sleep training to help keep children safe. All sleep times are added to each child’s account on our secure childcare app so parents and carers how long their child has slept during their session at nursery.
